Why it is built this way
"I wish this came out every week." Readers used to weekly newsletters will think it, and The Slow Wire answers before they say it, with a button: "Why this is not weekly". If you publish on a slower schedule than people expect, take the lesson: turn the thing you might apologise for into part of the pitch.
Your own page can work the way this one does. Lead with the current issue, since that is the easiest yes. Show the size of the archive in the label, as "The archive, 84 issues" does, so a new reader sees the depth at a glance. And switch on email capture, which this page has enabled, so a visitor can subscribe without leaving.
The design reads like a newspaper. The title is set in Newsreader, a serif designed for reading news on screen, while Inter keeps the bio and buttons plain. Paper white (#FBFAF7) for the page, a dark warm grey (#3A3733) for the bio, and one brick red (#9E2B25) as the button colour, echoed in the photo ring, with the paper white reused for its lettering. It is a two-colour print palette, and square buttons suit it.
The bio, "One long piece a fortnight about infrastructure, written by someone who used to build it," gives a reader the format, the frequency, the topic and the reason to trust the author, all in one sentence.
