Instagram will tell you about reach, likes, and saves. It will not tell you who left the app because of your content, where they went, or what they did next. The one place all of that becomes measurable is the link in your bio. It is the single door between your audience and everything you actually monetize, which makes its analytics the most underused data most creators have.
The four levels of link analytics
Tools differ wildly in what "analytics" means. It helps to think in levels:
- Level 1: page views. How many people opened your page. Necessary, nearly useless alone.
- Level 2: click counts. Views per button. Now you know which offers pull. This is where most tools stop.
- Level 3: per-click detail. Each click as an event with a timestamp, location, device, and referrer. This is where diagnosis becomes possible: you stop asking "how many" and start asking "who, from where, and when".
- Level 4: identity and segmentation. Repeat visitors recognized across sessions, qualifier answers attached to clicks, contacts captured with consent. At this level your bio link behaves like the top of a CRM, not a signpost.
Raydar operates at levels 3 and 4: every click lands in a readable logbook with IP-level detail, and qualifier flows let you segment visitors before they ever reach your links. Whatever tool you use, know which level you are on, because the advice below assumes at least level 3.
Signal 1: timing tells you when to post
Click timestamps cluster tightly after posting. Comparing those clusters across posts tells you two things the platform's own insights blur: which content actually drives link-out behavior (not just likes), and how long a post keeps working. A post with modest likes but a long click tail is worth more than a viral one nobody acted on. Schedule around the tails, not the vanity spikes.
Signal 2: geography tells you what to sell and ship
If forty percent of your clicks come from a country you never think about, that is pricing, shipping, and language information you were flying blind on. For service businesses it decides where your booking hours should sit. For merch it decides your fulfillment partner. You cannot see any of this in a click count.
Signal 3: device split tells you how to build the landing page
Bio traffic is overwhelmingly mobile, but the exact split matters at the margins where conversions die: a checkout that is fine on iOS Safari and broken on Android in-app browsers will quietly cost you a fixed slice of revenue forever. If your analytics show the split, you know exactly which combination to test first.
Signal 4: referrers separate your platforms
The same page usually serves Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and whatever else. Referrer data (plus UTM tags, next section) tells you what each platform's traffic is worth. Creators routinely discover their smallest audience drives their most valuable clicks. That reprices your time.
Tag your links: the ten-minute UTM habit
Analytics on the page tell you what happens on the page. UTM parameters tell the destination what happened before it. Append them to each button's target URL:
example.com/shop?utm_source=raydar&utm_medium=bio&utm_campaign=august-drop
Three rules keep this useful: pick one naming convention and never improvise, tag every button differently so you can tell them apart in your store's analytics, and change the campaign tag when you change the offer, not the week. Ten minutes of setup, and your bio link becomes attributable end to end.
A note on privacy
Per-click data includes IP-derived location, which in the EU and UK is personal data. Use a tool that is upfront about this, link a real privacy policy from your page, and do not export click logs into places with weaker handling than the tool itself. Raydar's approach is documented in our privacy policy; whatever you use should be able to answer the same questions.
Where to start
Pick the one decision you are least sure about (posting time, which platform to invest in, which offer leads) and let two weeks of click data answer it. Analytics earn their keep one decision at a time, and the bio link is the cheapest place in your whole funnel to start collecting. If your current tool can only show you a number going up, the upgrade costs less than one bad guess.
